General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong has denied assertions of hostility between him and the party’s 2016 Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.Speaking on Oman Fm’s National Agenda, Mr. Agyepong mentioned that he has a cordial relationship with Nana Addo but the people around the latter seem to have created an imaginary tension between the two.

“The relationship between Nana Addo and I is cordial…we have been meeting on several occasions; there is a four-way meeting among the General Secretary [myself], National Chairman, Minority Leader and the Presidential Candidate on every Monday….I personally went to Nana’s office to invite him to my father-in-law’s funeral.” he said.Adding, “I have served him for a long time; I wholeheartedly supported and campaigned for Nana Addo in 1998 against Former President Kufuor; I led Nana Addo in a campaign throughout the country. He knows what I have done for him previously but some people around him have created enmity between us; they don’t want us together and so anytime they see that Nana Addo and I are close then they must foment trouble. Most of the people around him know that, I know Nana Addo better than them. Nana Addo is my friend, my elder brother and everything but I will tell him the truth when the need be,”Agyapong revealed.Mr. Agyapong hinted that he spoke with Nana Addo for 45 minutes concerning the emergency meeting before other executives and the Flag-bearer went ahead with the meeting without the party’s chairman and the General Secretary.“I told him on that Sunday for 45 minutes to hold on with the meeting for 24 hours so that all of us can be around for the meeting. I told him the meeting was going to create bad impression for the party if they go ahead without us; I said that Mahama had insulted businessmen and his presidential staffer has also insulted women and this meeting was to take away that shine but they didn’t listen to me and then they turn around to blame me for destroying the party,” he hinted.

Meanwhile, the first national vice chairman NPP, Freddie Blay has noted that Mr. Agyepong was aware of the said meeting, which was graced by the presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.
