Akufo-Addo denies plot to oust Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong

Nana Akufo-Addo has described as mischievous report seeking to oust Paul Afoko and and Kwabena Agyepong from office.

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo has distanced himself from emergency regional congresses by the party to oust embattled Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

In a rejoinder the NPP flagbearer noted he was also informed about the clash in dates for the two meetings and directed the chairman to liaise with the Regional chairmen to stand down their meetings for the NEC meeting to be held.

Akufo-Addo said he was rather informed that Paul Akofo had called off the NEC meeting without deference to him.

REJOINDER: REGIONAL CHAIRMEN PLAN TO OUST AFOKO, AGYEPONG

The attention of the Office of Nana Akufo-Addo has been drawn to a story on page 19 of the May 25, 2015 edition of the Daily Graphic titled “Regional Chairmen plan to oust Afoko, Agyepong?”

The story, written by Kobby Asmah and Abdul Aziz, claims that “the emergency regional congresses aimed at rallying support for the ousting of the two National Executive members, according to some close sources of the Party, were allegedly being instigated by the Party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.”

The story also goes on to quote the National Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Paul Afoko as confirming that he was informed of the Regional Executive Committee meetings by the flagbearer, and that he, Mr. Afoko, was at a loss as to why the Regional Executive Committee meetings should be allowed to take place on the same day as the scheduled NEC meeting.

The import of this Daily Graphic report seeks to portray Nana Akufo-Addo as having sanctioned the Regional Executive Committee meetings, despite an earlier agreement with the National Chairman to hold a National Executive Committee meeting on the same day, Monday, May 25, 2015.

This impression is totally wrong, flawed, and mischievous. As a general rule, Nana Akufo-Addo does not to like to engage in media commentary on internal NPP matters, but, having regard to the importance of the issues at stake and the central role of the Daily Graphic in the Ghanaian media, it is necessary for him to set the records straight.

The facts of the matter are as follows:

These are the facts of the matter and it is thus clear that Nana Akufo-Addo bore no responsibility whatsoever for the convening of the Regional Executive Committee meetings. Nana Akufo-Addo wants the membership of the NPP to understand that he continues to work for understanding and unity in the party.
