Moves by NPP Regional executives to remove Afoko, Agyepong fails

Moves by some NPP regional executives to oust Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong has failed.

The internal wrangling in the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) seems to deepen as all the ten regional chairmen of the party have planned to pass a vote of no confidence in the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko, and the General secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyepong.

According to sources, some regional chairmen met the flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo in Bolgatanga after the burial of the Upper East Regional chairman, Mahama Adams who was killed in a fatal acid attack.

The Regional Chairmen were, however, asked to gather signatures from all the ten regions in support of the impeachment.

Both Greater Accra and Northern Regions held their meeting on Sunday to remove Mr. Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong from office.

The Greater Accra region led by Ishmael Ashietey met the constituency chairmen but no reason was given for the removal of the two executives which they rejected the position taken by Mr. Ashitey.

They (executives) asked for a letter to explain the purpose of the meeting but he (Ashietey) said he will inform them through a text message.

In the Northern Region, only four were in support of the move to oust the two national executives namely, Hajia Amaama, Alhaji Rashid, Bugri Naabu and the Northern regional communications director.

Bugri Naabu, Northern Regional Chairman handed a paper to all regional executives to sign without any reason but the move was rejected by the executives.

Upon hearing the failure to gather support in Accra and Tamale, an emergency was organised on Sunday night at the residence of Nana Akuffo-Addo, which had in attendance Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Irene Naa TorshieUrsula Owusu, Dr. Akoto Afriyie, John Boadu who have been charged to ensure that the plan succeeds in other regions.
