Police bust arms smuggling ring

The Ghana Police Service has intercepted about 800 rounds of live ammunition being transported from Accra to Techiman

 

The Police have impounded 800 ammunition that were being transported from Accra to Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The ammunition was kept in a luggage compartment of an OA Vehicle with registration number AW 6758- 12 which was heading to Techiman.

According to the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yuhono, the ammunition was impounded at the Doblo Barrier on the Accra-Nsawam highway upon police intelligence.

DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno said the vehicle was accosted on Tuesday night and has served notice the suspects will be arraigned before court soon.

The police said three people including the driver of the bus have been arrested in connection with the case.

Upon interrogation the driver said he did not know the ammunition was part of the luggage but when they were probed further by the police they gave in by mentioning one Alhaji as the owner of the ammunition.

The police have begun investigating the matter.
