On the occasion of Founder’s Day - a day set aside to celebrate the country’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Pulse.com.gh shares with you five of his books.

1. Neo Colonialism: The Last Stage Of Imperialism

 

The book was first published in 1965. It caused an uproar in the US State Department that a sharp note of protest was sent to Kwame Nkrumah and the $25million of American "aid" to Ghana was promptly cancelled.

2. The Class Struggle in Africa

 

The 100 paged book which was published on December 15, 2006 by Panaf reveals the nature and extent of the class struggle in Africa, and sets it in the broad context of the African Revolution and the world socialist revolution.

3. I Speak Of Freedom

 

This book talks about the Political independence of Ghana in 1957 which became the catalyst of freedom in many other African countries. It was first published in 1961.

4. Challenge of the Congo

 

Challenge of the Congo was first published in 1967. It provides a contemporary account of Congo's recent history by one of the Heads of State most closely involved in 324 pages.

5. Africa Must Unite

 

This book sets out the case for the total liberation and unification of Africa. The 248 paged book was first published in June 1970.

The founder's day, which was instituted by late president John Evans Atta Mills in 2010, is also marked to immortalise the country's founder, Dr. Nkrumah, whose birthday falls on that day.

Dr. Nkrumah was the motivating force behind the independence of Ghana from British rule in 1957 and became the first president of the country.
