The president of the Ghana Journalist Association, Affail Monney has hinted that the union has considered reviewing its ethics in preparation towards the 2016 elections.

He made this known at the 20th Ghana Journalists Awards held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Saturday.

The ceremony which was under the theme, "Ghana in Search of Reliable Energy to Power Development: The Role of the Media” saw President John Dramani Mahama grace the occasion as the special guest of honour.

Rt. Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante, chairman of the National Peace Council and Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana was the chairperson for the programme with Mr Kweku Andoh Awotwi, Principal at Africa Power System as guest speaker.

Twenty-six Ghanaian journalists received honours.

Many have said that the 2016 election is very crucial – a reason for which various political parties and other key players must work hard to ensure that the results are satisfactory.

The role of the media cannot be over-emphasized as its reportage can either have dire consequences or maintain the peace the country has been able to cement for a while.
