Former parliamentary aspirant blames executives for stepping down

He explained that since he won the primary last November, the party members in his constituency have not been united making it difficult for him to campaign.

In an interview with Accra based Citi FM he said "it all stems from the fact that after the declaration of the primary results, last year in November, I started getting some negative sentiments whereby they were creating some divisions in the constituency within the NDC."

Though it is unclear what divisions he is refering to he said he did all he could to get every member on board for a successful campaign but to no avail.

“As much as I tried to bring the party together, the divisions were getting deeper and deeper. We’ve got only four months to the election, andt with this division, it was difficult for me to even start my campaign. I have tried, I have brought in elders, everybody to help but still it was not working,” he added.

Anthony Osei Gyimah resigned as presidential nominee of the NDC in the Abuakwa North Constituency last Monday. According to the Eastern Regional Secretary of the party he said he was stepping down for personal reasons. However there are rumours indicating he stepped down after reaching an agreement with Mr. Victor Smith, hence his decision to step down. Meanwhile picking of nomination forms for a re-run of the primary ends on Friday, July 22. Pulse.com.gh can confirm that Smith has picked a form to contest in the re-run.
