NDC is going out of power – NPP

According to Mr. Adjei-Mensah Korsah, winning the Amenfi West seat will be an indicator that the NDC will lose the 2016 national elections.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given strong indications that it is winning the Amenfi West by-election on Tuesday despite the vote buying techniques adopted by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Director of Elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah in an interview on Radio Ghana’s Behind the News stated that the “NDC is at its best using money and all forms that you can think of to win this by-election but it is not too new to us, it’s much anticipated that a government that has lost touch with the people would want to do everything by inducement to kill the mandate of the people.”

He however was certain that the people of Amenfi West will vote for the NPP “in spite of all the machinations that are going on.”

On Tuesday, the people of Amenfi West will elect a  new Member of Parliament (MP) following the sudden death of the sitting NDC MP, John Gyetuah, on October 13, 2015.

In all, four political parties, the NPP, the NDC, the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the United Freedom Party (UFP) are contesting the seat.

“One thing is simple – the NDC is going out of power and Amenfi West should be one of the indicators. If the NDC thinks that the tactics being employed is the best way to go, well we live to see,” he remarked.

He continued saying, “one thing is sure – they are going out of power and we are not too sure how they wish to save themselves by the methods that are being employed. It is not too different from Talensi but we will take on the fight, we will give them a tough run for their money, all the goodies that have been shared for the votes of the people will not match up to the strong message we have. We will reason with the people and I believe they will be better judges.”

The NPP Director of Elections was of the view that vote buying will not always be the answer to winning an election in Ghana because citizens are beginning to decipher between good governance and bad governance.

“I don’t think you can do this all the time for all the people. There is always an exception and we believe that exception should be in Amenfi West.”

“We are telling the people of Amenfi that they must be part of that journey. The whole country is gearing up for a big change in 2016 and the people of Amenfi must lead that. We believe that employing the right approach, the right strategies, we should prevail and so we are doing everything that needs to be done. We are not conceding any grounds to the NDC,” he added.
