He said even though he endorsed John Mahama ahead of the 2016 polls, he was aware that he was bound to fail because of the lack of connection between the party and its grassroots members.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM, Ayariga said he became aware of the disconnection after he realised that out of the 200 people who came to register to join his party daily, 90% were defectors from the NDC.

He further indicated that the 2016 election results showed that the NDC lost at least a million of its 2012 votes while the NPP largely maintained the votes it had in 2012.

Hassan Ayariga endorsed John Mahama ahead of the 2016 elections after he was disqualified by the Electoral Commission following claims that he made false declarations in his nomination forms.

The APC leader has indicated that he endorsed John Mahama because he called to console him after his disqualification from the race.
