According to the party executives, the chiefs and people of the district as well as key supporters of the NPP received the nomination of Mr Nyarba with utmost shock and disbelief.

Mr Paul Evans Nyarko, the first vice chairman of the party said "This is because we have earlier on petitioned the presidency and the leadership of the party to give the DCE to Mr Joseph Kumah-Mackay, the Parliamentary candidate of the party in 2012 and 2016."

He said despite the fact that Mr Kumah-Mackay lost the parliamentary seat, as a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he was able to close the voting gap from more than 10,000 votes in election 2012 to less than 1,200 votes in Election 2016.

"This is an indication that the NPP is gradually gaining roots in the area, and can win both the parliamentary and presidential votes in 2020 if appointed as the DCE," he said.

He explained that all the 12 out of the 16 constituency executives, as well as the two Traditional Areas – Dwan and Wiase Traditional Areas had declared their support for Mr Kumah-Mackay, adding that ‘it would be political suicidal for the NPP in the area if the concerns of the people were not heard and addressed.

Meanwhile, the acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has said several Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be sacked after one year in office.
