Nana Konadu supports NPP's new voters register call

The NPP which is the biggest opposition party has made incessant calls for a new register.

Former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has asked the EC to listen to the NPP's call for a new voters register.

She said a new register will instill confidence in the Electoral commission

The NPP which is the biggest opposition party has made incessant calls for a new register. They contend that the current register is bloated and filled with over 76,000 Togolese nationals.

The RULING NDC has rejected this claim. According to them a news register will not solve the problem of minors being registered.  The EC has since asked the various parties  to present their proposals on the NPP's petition before a decision is made. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings told the media on Thursday that the register should be cleaned by replacing it with a new one.“I believe that it will serve the interest of Ghana and Ghanaians if the voters’ register is revisited and we all re-register and weed out all the ghost names and foreign names, to see the real potential of the Ghanaian voter and let them vote for who they want. I think it is in our interest as a nation to do that because to pretend that we do not know that it is bloated and all that is a farce. And as much as our party the NDP says that the voters’ register should be cleaned out, we also believe that if it is done and done well for Ghana to have a quick step ahead of the rest of West Africa, maybe we should also be looking at electronic voting after we’ve re-registered and we’ve seen how its working, that should be the next move."
