'NPP leaders are behaving like JHS students' - Asiedu Nketia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the NPP have discovered evidence that shows that close to 80,000 Togolese have registered on the voters’ register

Mr Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of NDC

The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated that leaders of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, (NPP) “are behaving like JHS students who have forged answers and are looking for a formula that will lead them to those answers.”

His comments comes at the back of a press conference called by the leadership of the NPP to reveal what they describe as bloated voters' register.

The NPP, according to its vice presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia alleged that, the party has discovered 76,286 potential names and faces of individuals in both Ghana and Togo register.

According to him, the evidence is damning and shows that Ghana's register is bloated.

Dr. Bawumia said the uncovering of these foreign nationals in the register is just “10% of the search.”

“Our investigative team obtained the Togo voters’ register which was publicly displayed prior to the 2015 Togolese elections. Using facial biometric recognition technology, the system has found 76,286 potential matches of the same people, with the same names and faces on the Ghanaian as well as Togolese voters registers; some 2000 of which we present in the power point presentation,” he said.

“I should note that so far, we have only completed less than 10% of the work on the Togolese register and we will begin work on comparing the Ivorian register with Ghana’s shortly and follow that with the Burkina Faso register.

“Even though our investigations are on-going, we are presenting our initial results because time is of the essence in this matter of a new electoral register. The EC, as we speak, is in the process of taking a decision on the issue and we have to make an input into this process at the earliest opportunity.

He added: “What is more troubling with the findings so far is that many of the pictures of the Togolese citizens on Ghana’s register were not taken in a live environment but rather scanned from existing pictures and documents. We actually have an incredible situation of one polling station in Ketu South constituency (Temporary Booth Shikakope-Apekotuime) where most of the pictures on the voters register were scanned.

But Johnson Asiedu Nketia speaking on Joy FM said the NPP is noted for fabricating evidence to back spurious claims.

He stated that the NDC is not bothered at all about the claims because “NPP is known to have in the past engaged in fabrication and misrepresentation to achieve what they wanted.”

He said the opposition party is just blowing hot air and when they subjected to strict proof, their evidence will evaporate.”

“Knowing them for what they are, they are capable of doing anything so we are not bothered at all,” he added.

He, however, stressed that the NPP leaders “are behaving like JHS students who have forged answers and are looking for a formula that will lead them to those answers.”
