NPP map out plans to win Amenfi West constituency

As the various political parties prepare to win the Amenfi West constituency bye-election, the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party Kwabena Agyepong is in the constituency to build a strong ground as far as the bye-election is concerned.

The Western Regional branch of the party and some executives stormed the constituency and are working assiduously to map out plans to win the upcoming parliamentary election.

The bye-election is to be held in accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, following the sudden death of the Member of Parliament (MP), John Gyetuah, on October 13, 2015.

However, the Electoral Commission (EC) announced the holding of the bye-election on December 15, 2015, to elect a new member of parliament.

The EC said nominations for the election will be on Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19 at the Asankragwa office of the Commission from 8am to 12noon and 2pm to 5pm each day.

“Nomination forms may be obtained from the Returning Officer at the District Office or the Regional Office of the Commission in Sekondi.

“Prospective candidates shall attach four recent photographs of bust size, with red background showing the full face and both ears, to the completed nomination forms.

“The filing fee for the election remains One Thousands Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000),” a statement signed by Amadu Sulley, EC Deputy Chairman (Operations) indicated.

The NPP is poised to win the seat which belongs to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

John Gyetuah died at the age of 65, after he was discovered unconcious in his room on the morning of October 13.

He was a member of the NDC and previously served as a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and later Minister of State at the Presidency during President Mills’ presidency.
