Lawyer and member of the New Patriotic Party, John Kuma made the allegation in response to Fiifi Kwetey's claims that the erstwhile Kufour administration managed a cocaine induced economy.

Making direct reference to the arrest and imprisonment of Nayele Ametefe, the Ghanaian/Austrian who pleaded guilty to carrying 12.5 kilograms of cocaine to the United Kingdom, Mr Kuma slammed the transport minister for accusing the NPP of cocaine trade.

"You have used the presidency to promote cocaine and you have the audacity to refer to MV Benjamin which a committee sat and came up to say that the 77 parcels of cocaine was somebody’s figment of imagination and that there was no such thing,” he said on Citi FM's Big Issue Saturday. “What is his [Fifi Kwetey] credibility to raise dead propaganda issues over weightier matters like you have received GH¢248b and you have not accounted for it.”

On Thursday, Mr Kwetey resurrected the cocaine debate by accusing the Kufour administration of making Ghana the hub of cocaine trade.

Addressing a press conference in Accra as part of the NDC’s ‘Setting the Records Straight’ series ahead of the December polls, Mr Kwetey said the NPP government had a lot of revenue from drug money but still found it difficult to transform the economy.

“It should be noted that; we tried not to even make reference to the fact that the NDC period was a period when the economy of Ghana was not inundated with massive cocaine cash as was experienced during the eight years of the NPP, when the floodgates of cocaine were opened and Ghana became a virtual cocaine hub,” Kwetey said.

Fifi Kwetey, however, argued that the ‘cocaine cash flowing into the economy’ was curtailed by the Mahama-led administration when it took over power from the NPP.

“Throughout the period of the eight years of the NDC from 2009 till now, Mr Mahama has competently ensured that we do not have any of the ‘cocaine cash’ flowing into the economy,” he said.
