Dr Nduom Paa Kwesi in a Facebook post on Saturday questioned why the premix fuel can’t be sold at fuel stations just like petrol and diesel for fishermen to purchase.

He said: "Why can’t a fisherman take his/her money to a petrol station and buy pre-mix fuel without fuss? Why allow greedy politicians to mess around with the livelihood of the fishermen who are already struggling to make a living? I come from a fishing town, Elmina and I know what I am talking about.

"The government should find a better, direct way to help fishermen. Including safeguarding our part of the ocean from illegal fishing by both locals and foreigners."

His comments come after Accra-based Citi FM reported over 200 cases of premix fuel diversion which has negatively impacted the work of fishermen.

The Accra-based radio station has also reported on a clear case of nepotism where the Fisheries Minister, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, has appointed his brother as the administrator of the National Premix Committee.

Meanwhile the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has been petitioned to probe the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture for her role in the allege premix fuel diversion scandal.
