Former local government minister warns against electing MMDCEs
President Nana Akufo-Addo has pledged to make the position of MMDCEs electable by 2018.

This, he said, was to strengthen the local governance system and offer Ghanaians the opportunity to choose who they preferred to represent their interest as Chief Executive in the Assembly.
But according to Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Ghana is deeply polarised, nothing it that it is the local government system, which operates in a non-partisan line that holds Ghana together.

He added that any idea to elect DCEs should be done in a cautious manner in other not to polarise the "country from top to down."
“Already, we are living in a very polarized environment and one of the threads that have kept us together is our local government and decentralization system which operates on a non-partisan basis and gives people the opportunity to play their role in the governance process in that non-partisan manner," he told Accra-based Citi FM.
He added: "Any attempt to make local elections partisan must tread very cautiously in order not to polarise this country from top to down."
