'Rawlings must re-examine himself' - Kwesi Pratt

"If he made that statement, he should be re-examining himself, he should be re-examining himself,” he said.

He questioned why the ex-President and founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is suddenly condemning such comments when he had not done so in the past.

He asked, “far worse statements have been made in this country and he was quiet so why would he react on this particular one?”

“When people were calling on one ethnic group to attack two or three other ethnic groups, where was he?”

On Wednesday, ex-President Rawlings in a statement described as “distasteful” comments made by Dzifa Ativor, claiming that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is likely to jail leading members of the NDC who are Ewes should they win the November polls.

In his statement, he said tagging the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo as tribalistic is unfair because “whatever Nana Addo’s shortcomings, tribalism is not one of them.”

In reaction, Mr. Pratt during a panel discussion on Radio Gold said Mr. Rawlings' response is surprising and worrying.

“Are we truly sure that former President Jerry John Rawlings issued that statement? Are we truly sure? I just want to know whether he actually issued that’s statement because I will be very, very, worried if indeed, he issued that statement.”

He asked, “why is it that this particular case is of so much interest to him? These are questions that he himself would have to answer but I doubt that we went out and made that statement but indeed if he made that statement, he should be re-examining himself, he should be re-examining himself.”
