The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the cancellation of the tender process to select an IT Firm for the transmission of results electronically in the December polls.

Some companies bidding for the contract to electronically transmit election results were invited last month by the EC to demonstrate how they will execute the project.

The EC subsequently shortlisted some who were hoping to electronically transmit the results.

However, a few weeks after their invitation, the tender process has been abandoned.

The commission, in a short statement Thursday said: “Tender process for the electronic result transmission system has been cancelled because none of the tenders met the set criteria.”

The New Patriotic Party had earlier raised concerns over the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to transmit election results electronically from the polling station to the National headquarters.

According to Peter Mac Manu, the Campaign Manager, the EC has not been able to convince the country why it intends to introduce e-transmission of poll results in December.

“First, there is no law which gives the EC the mandate to electronically transmit results. Nothing in the law before Parliament now, C.I. 94, makes mention of it,” Mac Manu noted.

“Also, the law talks about the EC receiving all the collated results from the Statement of Poll and Declaration of Results (pink sheets), signed by party agents at the constituency level, and the expectation is that they will be brought to the National Collation Centre before the winner of the presidential race will be declared,” he stated.
