Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, the wife of former President Rawlings, was disqualified by the Electoral Commission for failing to meet some requirements of the electoral laws.

She was disqualified together with twelve other presidential aspirants.

In explaining the NDP’s disqualification, the EC explained that “The Commission is unable to accept Mrs. Rawlings’ nomination because the number of subscribers to her forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94. One subscriber on page 89 of her nomination forms is not a validly registered voter, and illegally registered twice and so is on the Exclusion list of multiple voters. Details are Salifu Abdulai District: Nanumba South, Voter ID no: 6617004814 (28.3.2012), Voter ID no: 2126900022 (04.8.2014).”

But in a response, Nana Konadu, who appeared surprised at the decision, said the posture of the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei towards the election has always been questionable.

“You are an Electoral Commission; you don’t threaten people who are coming to work with the franchise of freedom and justice in our country. She is permanently threatening us as a people. In partisan politics, you bring people together; you don’t try to exclude people,” she told the media at a press conference hours after the announcement by the EC was made.

She argued that the EC, who she believes has always been adamant for a call to have a new voter register, should have made public a list of double registration “for everyone to see.”

Nana Konadu was hopeful that the anomalies in her forms would not have been made if the EC had provided "a list of double registration."

Meanwhile, the party has said it will head to court over the matter.
