Election 2016 EC to begin vetting presidential nominees today

According to the chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei, the commission will produce a list of eligible aspirants after seven days of vetting.

The Electoral Commission (EC) will on Monday, October 3, begin vetting the various nomination forms which were submitted by presidential and parliamentary hopefuls last week to contest in the December7 polls. 

Seventeen aspirants were able to file their nomination for the commission’s approval.

According to the chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei, the commission will produce a list of eligible aspirants after seven days of vetting.

“The commission has gone through the process of receiving the forms, we will now vet the forms and make sure that they are in compliance with the legal requirements under the constitution and subsidiary legislation. For the candidates who have met the legal requirements their nominations will be accepted; which will mean that their names will be on the ballot paper for the December 7, election,” she said.

Fifteen presidential candidates filed their nominations with the EC to contest the December 7 polls. The aspirants include; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP, John Dramani Mahama of the NDC, Akwesi Odike of the United Freedom Party, United Freedom Party represented by Agyenim Boateng, Hassan Ayariga of APC, Kofi Akpaloo IPP, Akua Donkor of the GFP and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings NDP.

The rest are as follows; Kwabena Adjei RDP, Papa Kwesi Nduom PPP, WO1 Richard Nixon Tetteh UDSP, Dr Henry Lartey GCPP, Ivor Greenstreet CPP, Edward Mahama PNC and Thomas Ward Brew DPP.

The two independent presidential hopefuls who have also submitted their forms are Jacob Yaw Osei and Kwame Asiedu Walker.
