Election 2016 GCPP files suit against EC

The disqualified presidential hopeful of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Dr Henry Lartey has filed an injunction suit to halt processes ahead of the December 7 polls.

Dr Lartey was disqualified from running in the presidential race by the Electoral Commission (EC) with the reason of not providing the personal records of the running mate and for being endorsed by a subscriber suspected to have forged his signatures.

Dr Lartey has, however, accused the commission of being responsible for the said missing document and demanded his reinstatement during a press statement last week.

Speaking on Accra-based Kasapa FM Dr Lartey indicated that injunction suit was filed by his lawyers on Friday, October 14, seeking the court to stop the EC from continuing the proceedings until he is reinstated.

The EC on Monday, October 10, announced the disqualification of 12 presidential nominees for failing to meet the criteria for filing as president.

Dr Henry Lartey of Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) the is one of the thirteen presidential nominees who were disqualified by the EC from running in the race to the Flagstaff house.

Meanwhile, Nana Akufo Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet of the Convention People's Party (CPP) and Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent candidate have been cleared to contest in the presidential race in the December 7 polls.
