According to the Yapei Wura, his people have been neglected by President Mahama’s government over the last 8 years, as Yapei continues to be deprived of basic social amenities, including potable, drinking water.

“Though John Mahama comes from here, and we are surrounded by water, we are thirsty. There is no drinking water at all,” he bemoaned.

Additionally, the Gonja Chief noted that in the “whole of the Kusawgu Traditional Area, we have no secondary school and yet John Mahama is our brother. To say that a community of this nature has no secondary school is nothing to write home about. We cannot be sitting down boasting and claiming to have a President, which is not reflecting in our wellbeing.”

The Yapei Wura made this known on Friday, September 2, 2016, when Nana AKufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party, paid a courtesy call on him at his palace, on the last day of his tour of the Northern Region.

Thanking Nana Akufo-Addo for his visit, Yapei Wura Soale Alhassan assured the NPP flagbearer that “victory is yours in the making. In the history of Yapei, this is the first time I have seen an enthusiastic crowd yearning and willing to vote for you to go to Jubilee House.”

He further indicated that “the entirety of Yapei Kusawgu and Gonjaland is ready to see you at the Presidency.”

Considering the size of the Yapei/Kusawgu Traditional Area, the Gonja Chief appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo, when he wins this year’s election, “to give us a district, because I know that you are the incoming President.”
