The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set Saturday, September 17, for the launch of its much awaited manifesto in Sunyani, the capital of the Brong Ahafo Region.

This follows a postponement of the launch of the election document, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, August 28, 2016.

The party’s campaign spokesperson Joyce Bawa-Mogtari said the party is now all set to launch its manifesto.

“…Whatever we [NDC] do is usually based on strategy, it’s based on tact and above all that we are a party that is actually in government so we do believe that our manifesto will be providing Ghanaians a semblance of what to expect in our second and final term of President Mahama, so for our part, we continue to implement our existing manifesto … and you know that the NDC since 2004 has actually never launched its election campaign together with its manifesto.

“The two are normally separate events so we expect that after the launch, the media and every well-meaning Ghanaian will have access to the document to critique it to the best of their ability…” she told Accra-based Class FM.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has also set September for its campaign launch. Mr Mustapha Hamid, spokesperson for the NPP’s flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo said the manifesto will be centered on the one- factory-per-district and one-dam-per-village policies by the presidential nominee.

“We have told you that somewhere in this September, we will launch the manifesto. But all the things that we have been saying are part of our manifesto. All the big ideas in the manifesto are the ones we are putting out and the rest will just be detailed explanations of these major polices.”

“Even though the launch is important, Ghanaians now have a fair idea of what is contained in the manifesto. In this September, God-willing, we will find a correct date [to launch it],” Mr Hamid said.

The New Patriotic Party has often explained that they were delaying because they did not want the NDC to copy portions of their campaign document into their manifesto.

In the December polls, President John Mahama will be leading the NDC while Nana Akufo Addo leads the NPP. The NDC is aiming at winning a second term as the governing party.
