Deputy Eastern Regional Director of the EC John Appiah Baffoe explained that voters who would be unavailable on December 7, 2016, were expected to pick application forms from the EC so they go through some technical details of proxy.

Speaking to Daily Graphic Newspaper, Appiah Baffoe said electorates cannot just pick application forms to vote on behalf of another by proxy.

“This is necessary because, on Election Day, the proxy must also be verified before he would be allowed to vote. If all these technical details are not provided, the application will not be accepted by the commission,” he added.
He indicated that the proxy must also be a registered voter. But he was quick to add that either the proxy or the applicant can pick the form.
He said both people needed to be present for a verification process which will see the 10 fingerprints of the proxy entered to those of the applicant.
Pressure group, “Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA)” earlier has expressed worry about what it calls the lack of transparency and the absence of a clearly defined process for the submission of the proxy application.
The Electoral Commission (EC) on August 17, 2016, began a 40-day exercise to accept the application for proxy voting during general elections on December 7.

The exercise, which is expected to end on September 26, 2016, will enable an eligible voter to delegate someone to vote on his or her behalf when he or she is unable to be present during the Presidential and Parliamentary polls.
