The Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor has revealed that the suspects involved in the vandalisation of the EC office in Suhum have been granted bail pending a final determination of the case.

He made this revelation at a press conference held today (Thursday) after a National Election Security Task Force Committee (NESTFC) meeting was held at the police headquarters in Accra.

The Electoral Commission office in Suhum in the Eastern Region was shut down following an attack by some thugs. It was reopened days after the incident.

The attackers ransacked the office and took away a printer which was reportedly sent to the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

Similar incidents have occurred in other parts of the country especially during the vote transfer period.

Despite these incidents the Police Chief is convinced there will be an incident free election on December 7.

Updating the media on the state of other violent clashes in different parts of the country during the vote transfer recently, he said the Police are currently in control of all such areas.

“Currently  the police is in control of these areas and more personnel  have been deployed to Ajumako to help deal with the situation and arrest suspects.”

“I have tasked the director general and legal team to visit these areas and assist with prosecution of alleged offenders or suspects,” he added.

Reiterating government’s commitment to ensure the safety of all citizens during elections the Minister of Interior Prosper Bani said they would do all within their power to ensure an incident free election.

“The 2016 election, is an election for Ghana and it would be peaceful as all the previous state democratic elections because of the foresightedness and preparedness of all the security agencies. Government will continue to provide resources to make sure that there are no gaps as far as the preparedness of the security agencies are concerned.”
