The 2016 presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom says President and vice must pay tax on their emoluments and allowances.

Article 68(5) of the 1992 Constitution bars the President and his or her vice from paying tax.

"This is wrong and does not permit the president to set a good example for the citizens to follow," Nduom said.

But in the view of Nduom, he said, the Constitution exempting the president from paying tax is wrong.

He has however, called on President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo to change parts of the 1992 constitution that require review.

"This amendment to the Constitution will provide the moral authority on the part of the president to go after tax evaders whether they are appointees of the president or ordinary citizens," he added.
