Speaking to Joy News, Nana Kobina Nketsia said Ghanaians should not yield to such strategies since the nation’s survival hinged on accountability.

The Paramount Chief of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, has challenged Ghanaians to speak on issues of national importance and ignore political tagging.

According to him, the current phenomenon where people were branded as belonging to one political party or another when they criticise the government or parties in opposition was a deliberate ploy by political parties to deter the citizenry from holding them to account.

“When you stop making your contribution to the country, then the country is dead. Let not those who strive on division stop you from talking about the unity and progress of this country. Once you stop it, then we have lost the country”.

He said although people had criticised him because of his views, he would not stop talking because “so long as I know it is the truth, I’ll say it”.

Nana Nketsia said some people would do whatever they could to divide the country but that should not deter us from saying what was right.

The traditional leader also expressed the belief that although Ghana was struggling to get better, “we will get there”.
