A statement signed by National President of PUSAG, Richard Odame said since the police have decided to provide security for flagbearers and their running mates during this year's elections, owners of partial militia must be forced to dissolve the groups whiles "the Ghana Police Service launch a constant surveillance on the personnel involved to know every move of these individuals."

"Owners of partial militia or vigilante groups should be prosecuted and strengthen the Ghana Police move of providing security for aspirants. Ghana is gradually but increasingly withering as the robust country with an undoubted peace and stability hallmark. Although our democracy may still be in its budding stages, it is prudent we walk holistically with the rule of law and maintain the standards of 21st Century democracy," the statement added.

The Private Universities Students' Association of Ghana (PUSAG) commends the Ghana Police for such a pragmatic approach to deepening and strengthening peace as we draw close to our November elections. Ideally, the initiative is one that gives a clear indication of our concern for leaders of political parties aspiring to lead our nation through all times to reach where every nation of the common wealth and the world is going.

Subsequently, the peace of the nation is the only asset we the people of Ghana can boast of and for this reason every move that threatens the mere asset of this nation must be aborted. Vigilante groups and owners of these illegal and so called "private security forces" have contributed meaningfully to security of our political leaders. There have been instances where "body guards" of political leaders have engaged in brutality causing fear and panic. Some assault journalists, vandalizing their gadgets all the name of providing security for political leaders. Obviously, these cases stare as a result of no or little training and self-discipline on the part of these vigilante groups.

Assigning policemen security to aspirants is one that should be accepted with great delight. Peace is a key non-negotiable value that cannot be overemphasized during this period. Peace is the only pill that stops planned riot and need to prevail amidst misunderstanding and violence.

However, owners of partial militia or vigilante groups should be prosecuted and strengthen the Ghana Police move of providing security for aspirants. Ghana is gradually but increasingly withering as the robust country with an undoubted peace and stability hallmark. Although our democracy may still be in its budding stages, it is prudent we walk holistically with the rule of law and maintain the standards of 21st Century democracy.

We suggest that owners of partial militia be forced to dissolve the groups’ whiles the Ghana Police Service launch a constant surveillance on the personnel involved to know every move of these individuals. The rationale is to disarm and render these groups powerless, stripping off all their influences on the peace and democracy of the nation.

We would also advice the good people of the country to stay away from all forms of activities that stairs the wrath of one another and can highly lead to instability of democracy and peace. All political leaders should endeavor to accommodate all kinds of behaviors from all angles to be able to see peaceful fabrics of our country intact and willingly contribute to the building of our nation.

Long live PUSAG

Long live Mother Ghana

Thank you.
