The Member of Parliament for the Keta Constituency, Richard Quashigah, has asked that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia apologises for describing the Minority in Parliament as ignorant over the $2.25 billion domestic bond issued by government.

A statement signed by the NDC MP cautioned Dr Bawumia to mind comments since he could cause international embarrassment.

“If indeed those were his words, then it is not only unfortunate, but a very jaundiced conclusion to have been made by him,” Mr. Quashigah said.

“If indeed the reportage as put out by the media is accurate, then he is advised to learn to speak with diplomacy and dignity expected of a Vice President or else before long he could cause this nation an incalculable international embarrassment. Assuming without admitting that the minority got it wrong, couldn’t he have clarified without insults?”

He then urged the Vice President to do the honourable thing  by apologizing.

“Mr. Bawumia, the current Vice President of Ghana, must do the excellent thing by withdrawing and must apologize to the good people of Ghana. The use of intemperate language is unbecoming of the Vice President.”

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia earlier responded to claims that government issued a $2.25 billion bond mainly for its cronies.

He charged the Minority in Parliament to read in order to get themselves informed on the matter.

This follows allegations by the Minority that the bond was issued for cronies of the Minister of Finance and also did not go through the required process.

But responding to the claims Dr Bawumia who is currently in Washington attending the World Bank/IMF spring meeting told the media the Minority lacks “understanding in managing the economy.”
