More pressure continues to mount on the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, to either resign or be suspended from the party.

Another action has been commenced by some elders of the party in the northern part of the country, who, like the Council of Elders of the NPP, have also petitioned the Disciplinary Committee of the party about certain actions and inactions of Mr Afoko.

They claim that the embattled National Chairman has been engaging in anti-party activities likely to drag the name of the NPP into disrepute and have therefore called for a sanction against Afoko.

But when the issue came up for hearing on Tuesday, Afoko again failed to show up, claiming that he was indisposed. Afoko reportedly sent his lawyers to put in an excuse for him that he was indisposed and that he could not make it to the meeting.
His lawyers raised issues with the CK Tedam-led Council of Elders’ petition, but begged the northern elders to withdraw the new petition. His action has angered the Disciplinary Committee members who see his continuous boycotting of their meetings as an act of disrespect.
He was even said to have initiated court action through a proxy for the Committee to stay action on his case. Interestingly, he had earlier been scheduled to be in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, together with the NPP Second Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe, to do a public launch of their newly introduced membership card which has already stirred confusion in the party.

Thugs Even before members of the Disciplinary Committee could sit, a group of young men stormed the party headquarters to attack members of the Committee, compelling former Defence Minister, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, who is also a member, to call in the police.

Long before the police arrived at the location, the party’s own internal security, the Invisible Forces, who were on hand, managed to quell the attempt to attack the party elders.
Mr Afoko had initially refused to honour a similar invitation by the Disciplinary Committee over a petition sent to them bordering on some constitutional breaches and claims that he traded internal party affairs in the media contrary to laid-down procedures of the NPP, as well as authorising the police to probe the party.
He claimed he was mourning his late father, but was seen the same day at the African Regent Hotel with his lackeys launching the NPP new party card.
In a letter dated September 7, 2015 signed by the Chairman of the party’s Council of Elders, CK Tedam, and addressed to the Disciplinary Committee, he among other things demanded “at least suspension of Chairman Afoko from his office until after the 2016 elections.”

But when the Committee invited the NPP National Chairman for a meeting on September 16, 2015 he failed to show up, with an excuse that he was still mourning his late father.
The Committee is scheduled to sit on the matter on Monday, October 12, 2015. It is, however, not certain if Mr Afoko would honour that invitation.
