Former General Secretary, Mr Ivor Greenstreet, who is a person living with disability beat Samia Nkrumah on Saturday after winning the presidential primaries with 1,288 votes of the 1,992 valid votes cast.
The election of Ivor Greenstreet makes him the first person with disability to run for presidency in Ghana.
In an interview with GBC, the Advocacy Officer of the Federationfor the Disabled, Mr. Isaac Tugun said Mr. Greenstreet's election indicates that Ghana's democracy is offering space for the minority.
"To the federation, it is a welcoming news because that is what we have been advocating for. We have been advocating for effective participation of persons with disability in party politics as well as national governance," he said.
"It is a sign that the country is beginning to wake up and therefore receive the building of an inclusive society," Mr. Tugun added.
