He said that just as the NPP raised similar concerns while in opposition, others are also right in airing their grievances over the number of ministers and deputies appointed by President Nana Addo so far.

In a Facebook post, he said: “For now, these numbers are an issue, and the concerns being raised about them are legitimate, expected, and in order, just as the NPP in opposition raised them.”

However, he added that even though a number of ministerial appointees have never crossed 90 in the fourth republic, “President Akufo-Addo believes he needs these numbers of appointees to deliver.”

“If he indeed begins to deliver concretely on his transformational agenda, then the numbers will cease to be an issue.”

In March 2013 when then President John Mahama appointed his ministers and deputies, Akomea said he was “horribly disappointed” in the president for making 86 ministerial appointments.

However, Akomea seems to have relaxed his stance on the size of government after his party, broke the existing record of 93 ministers by the NPP’s John Agyekum Kufour.
