Sam George: Ex-officials bought 271 salon cars at the presidency

His comments follow claims by the Director of Communications at the Flagstaff House, Eugene Arhin, that 200 cars cannot be accounted for at the presidency.

“A number of my colleagues chose to buy their cars. I for personal reasons declined to buy my car and I returned it to the director of logistics at the Office of President. We put out a list of 641 vehicles. We handed over about 370 vehicles to the assets and logistics committee [of the new government] and these vehicles were physically inspected by the assets committee led by lawyer Ayikoi Otoo,” he said on Citi FM's "The Big Issue on Saturday.

“You’ll see a disparity and it is because 271 salon cars were purchased by staffers who had put in a request to purchase their vehicles which were 2 years and above,” the former presidential staffer added.

The missing cars were detected after the current government took stock of the cars at the seat of government using documents made available by the transport officer at the seat of the Presidency.

The missing cars include 122 Toyota Landcruisers, 43 Landcruiser Prados and 13 Mercedes Benz luxury cars.

This, he noted, has forced the president to use a 10 year old BMW and his personal V8 vehicle for official duties.
