The Member of Parliament for the Suame constituency and minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has described as false reportage that he campaigned for the majority leader Alban Bagbin who doubles as the MP for the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency in the Upper West region.

Ahead of the primaries of the National Democratic Congress primaries on Saturday November 21, 2015, some parliamentary aspirants seem to have the blessings and support from some stalwarts of the opposition New Patriotic Party.
Media reports indicate that Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has mounted a strong campaign for Alban Bagbin to be retained as the parliamentary candidate of the NDC in the Nadowli -Kaleo constituency.

According to Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, attempts to get the veteran MP out of parliament will be an indictment on Ghana's democracy.
The MP for Nadowli-Kaleo, who is seeking for a seventh term in the Chamber in the 2016 elections, is one of the longest-serving parliamentarians in Ghana.

But the minority leader speaking to Accra-based Okay FM said, "I didn’t campaign for Bagbin. We were on an outreach program in the North and as part of my speech I said that Bagbin is a good material for parliament and that if the NDC intended to change him in their upcoming primaries, they should elect someone who is equally competent and not just anybody.

"People didn’t get the understanding and a female colleague of mine went about fuming at me for campaigning for Bagbin. She didn’t even wait to hear exactly what I said. I am sure if she gets to hear exactly what I said, she may change her position on the matter but the truth is that I didn’t campaign for Bagbin. As a minority leader, the NPP constitution doesn’t allow me to do that," he added.
