Suit against Zanetor Rawlings to be heard Feb 4

The two lost their parliamentary bid to Dr. Zanetor Rawlings in the primaries held at the constituency last November.

Dr Zanetor Rawlings

The Parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is challenging a suit filed against her by the MP for the area Nii Armah Ashitey and another Nii John Coleman.

Nii Armah Ashitey and Nii Coleman have subsequently sued the NDC, the Electoral Commission and Dr. Zanetor Rawlings over her legitimacy to contest for a parliamentary seat under the Constitution.

The plaintiffs claim that Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is not a registered voter and therefore her election as the parliamentary candidate for the constituency should be declared null and void.

In response to the suit, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings has also filed a motion praying the court to strike out the suit against her.

At the High Court's sitting today, counsel for the plaintiffs, Gary Nimako prayed the court to subpoena the EC for failing to appear before the court.

He also told the court that the EC has failed to furnish him with some important documents which he requested for.

However, counsel for Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, Godwin Tamakloe, in his submission said the plaintiffs' counsel request is premature which should not be granted by the court.

The presiding judge, Justice Kwaku Ackah-Boafo accordingly refused to grant the prayer of Mr. Nimako to subpoena the EC. The case has been adjourned to the 4th of next month.
