Dzifa Attivor should not take Voltarians for fools

The minister, who resigned her position as a result of the Metro Mass Transit bus rebranding saga, is reported to have told a group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters that a New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in 2017 will arrest some of them just like in 2001, when the NPP assumed office.

She made this known during the launch of ‘Ketu South for Fiifi and Mahama’ at Wodoaba in the Ketu South Constituency.

According to her, the NPP, if voted into power, will arrest Ewes like her and Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey – Member of Parliament for the Constituency.

But, in an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the Deputy Director of Communications for the NPP, Perry Okudzeto said the former minister of transport is only making such comments to cover up her "bad deeds when she was minister."

"This is somebody who clearly misappropriated taxpayers money by awarding a contract to an entity to print and brand buses at very exorbitant prices.

"She should not take the people of Volta region for fools, we Ewes are not fools for individuals to go and steal state funds and then come to us and come and rally a whole tribe to fight on her behalf when we did not benefit from her booty", he added.

Mr. Okudzeto added that the "people of Volta region will vote based on issues."

He further denied assertions that the NPP targets personalities in certain tribes for prosecution.

"In 2001, the state prosecuted some former government officials under the Rawlings administration. This included people from across the country. It didn't come from a particular tribe", he noted.

"We are calling on opinion leaders; we are calling on the president and the people who matter in this country to get Madam Attivor to retract from her statement," the deputy director of communications for the NPP added.
