President Akufo-Addo contested the 2016 elections on the ticket of the NPP, eventually defeating incumbent John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, several reports have suggested that some members of the NPP have gone on a rampage destroying and seizing public properties.

The hierarchy of the NPP has issued various statements on the matter, but the president has so far been silent.

And Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah has now challenged President Akufo-Addo to come out and condemn the acts of his party members or “be blamed”.

Speaking on Class FM, the University of Cape Coast lecturer said:

“I expect that his voice and his command will be the final voice,” adding that “the president could be blamed” if he continues to keep mute.”

The Police confirmed that a total of 14 people have been arrested in connection with the riots and seizure of public facilities. The NDC has also organized a press conference last month asking the president to “call his people to order.”
