Philip Addison elected NPP Klottey Korle Parliamentary candidate

In the November polls, Lawyer Addison will contest against the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) candidate, Zanetor Rawlings.

Out of the about 763 votes cast, Addison polled 396 votes while his closest contender, Nii Noi Nortey, polled 367 votes.

The election was conducted under tight security on Saturday due to the tension that exists between the two contestants and their supporters.

Mr. Nortey refused to sign the Electoral Commission’s declaration form and walked off the premises in anger.

This is the second time the primary in that constituency is being held following a court action initiated by Philip Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah after Nii Noi Nortey was declared winner in the August, 2015 primaries.

In that election, Nii Noi Nortey polled 393 votes, Philip Addison had only 22 votes while the third contender, Nii Adjei Tawiah, managed 19 votes.

Addison and Tawiah, challenged the results in court, with the claims that their supporters did not turn our to vote because they had boycotted the election.

The court ruled in their favour and the party leadership set today for the re-run of the primary in that constituency.

Mr. Tawiah however pulled out of the race on Friday and pledged his support to Mr. Addison.
