John Boadu, acting General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), said he will demonstrate against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if he gives former President John Mahama his Cantonments residence as his retirement home.

He said, the President must not allow, because the NDC-led administration denied former-President John Agyekum Kufour of such benefit.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM, John Boadu said, the move if accepted can cause wrath among the electorates who voted for the party in the 2016 elections.

However, former President John Mahama has denied claims that he has refused to vacate his official residence to allow the current vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to occupy it.

The former president who has been staying in the Cantonments residence ever since he was Vice president explained that he had asked for the residence to be allocated to him as his “retirement home”.

Mahama said the reports are “mischievous” and are only meant to "embarrass" him when he had formally informed the incoming administration through his former chief of staff Julius Debrah to continue staying in the house.

"The claims that Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is stranded and has nowhere to stay, is mischievous and deliberately intended to embarrass President Mahama.

Government has also denied claims that an agreement has been reached to allow former President John Mahama to continue staying in his Cantonments residence.

"A request has been made by the former president Mahama. Indeed the request was made at the time he was president. And if you read my senior brother’s Omane Boamah’s statement it suggests that a decision was made and then communicated to us which with great respect cannot be the case...so what has happened is that a request has been made. I do know that a response will be communicated to him in the shortest possible time," he said on Accra-based Joy FM.
