The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended the deadline for the biometric registration of its members.

For instance, the Upper West regional secretariat of the party has issued 34,640 biometric cards to members, since the beginning of the registration exercise in the region.

This is out of the 55,650 members who have registered since the biometric registration exercise of the party started this year.

General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia  said the process forms part of efforts to increase their membership base as well as the number of votes for President John Mahama in the 2016 general elections.

According to a statement signed by the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho indicated that the decision to extend the deadline was influenced by the increased outcry from party members.

“It has come to light that there is a need to extend the process so national has responded to the call from the base of the party so we have extended the finish date from the 23 to the 30 August,” he said.

Mr. Anyidoho added that the process has so far been successful.

“It is going on well, last week we sent teams from the national level to all the ten regions so as I speak, we have ourselves spread out all over the regions,” he said.
