Rawlings reduced corruption to the barest minimum - Martin Amidu

Martin Amidu said he accepted the President’s offer because he wants to stop the leakages and corruption.

Martin Amidu who served under the former President in the PNDC era said "he was the one who brought me into politics by appointing me from 1982 as an investigator, through 1983 as a PNDC Secretary.

"I served under him [Rawlings] until January 2001."

The vetting of Mr. Amidu was in limbo after a former deputy Attorney General Dr. Ayine filed a suit at the at the Supreme Court on Monday arguing that the nominee is too old to hold the position.

But Martin Amidu appearing before the Appointment's Committee said he accepted the President’s offer because he wants to stop the leakages and corruption.

"If there is anybody who will know me better, it must be him. And whatever anybody says about him, he reduced corruption and graft to the barest minimum, he didn't abolish it, and if I am an anti-corruption crusader who is defending the constitution, who better than him.

"I was really humbled when hours after my nomination, he [Mr Rawlings] came out to make those commendable comments about me," he added.
