Update: scores of names missing from special voting list

At Buma Camp, significant number of soldiers say their names are not on the list.

 

5:00- Voting has ended across all 275 constituencies.

1:55 At the Madina Constituency, only 40 people have voted while many more say their names are not on the register.

1:52: Broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi could not also vote when he turned up to vote. He told Joy news that his name is missing from the register.

1:25- A former Administrator at the EC Kwame Damoah says the challenges being experienced so far is as a result of poor planning and lack of communications. He spoke to 3FM.

1:17 TV3 news reports that security officers, who did not find their names in the voters’ register on the second day of Special Voting at Tamale Central, have threatened to stop the EC from going ahead with the exercise if their names are not found.

They claim the EC has failed in organizing the exercise and suspect sabotage from the elections management body.

1: 10 - Head of EC's communications, Eric Dzakpasu, has told 3FM that missing names being recorded in the special voting exercise will not occur on December 7.

"Today’s exercise is completely different from what is going to happen on 7th December. [On December 7] all voters know their constituencies. We are not expecting voters to carry their cards and go outside their constituencies."

1:04- In the Gomoa Central Constituency, 59 people are expected to vote today. 261 are registered as special voters. 202 voters voted on Thursday.

12:51- The Women's Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Otiko Djaba, said she is disappointed in the way and manner the exercise is being conducted.

She told Adom Tv that special voting is the simplest exercise to conduct since the total number of people expected to vote are known.

She believes the EC is scheming with the NDC to rig the elections.

12: 20- In Sunyani, the Commanding Officer for the 3rd Battalion, Lt Col. Awaribey could not find his name, according to a Joy News report.

12: 16- In the Central Region, the Police command say they will readjust the election duty deployment list to allow those who could vote today vote on December 7.

Cit FM journalist Richard Sky tweeted that three soldiers have been detained for protesting after they could not find their names.

11: 32- At the Upper West AKyem Constituency, only three people have voted so far as at 11 am.

11: 07- At Nsawam, Many prison warders and officers could not find their names on the list. A little over 700 people had voter on Thursday.

9:03- At the klottey korle Constituency, over 1,000 people are on the list. 997 voted on Thursday. Many who have turned-up to vote are having a hectic time finding their names on the list.

8:15- At Ledzokuko, five security personnel were turned away because their names could not be identified on the voters list.

8:02- At Cantonment, scores of police officers also vowed to vote before they are deployed on Election Day because they could not find their names on the special voters list.

7:40- In Ketu South in the Volta Region, some security officers left the polling station frustrated. They threatened to vote on Election Day before going on duty.
