Leaders of the 'Let My Vote Count Alliance' who were allegedly attacked by some Police personnel on Wednesday have vowed to drag the police to court for what they term a violation of their human rights.

A demonstration by supporters of the Alliance to press home the need for a new voters register turned violent, after many people got injured and some were flogged by the police.

The police claimed the demonstrators violated agreements on the approved routes.

“We are piecing together all the information we can gather. Our plan is to mount a class action in court against the Police for the violence that occurred at Wednesdays event....We shall not be moved, we shall not be harassed…beaten intimidated, brutalised and cowered by police violence, to stop our campaign for a new voters register,” he said at a press conference thursday.

David Asante also called on the President to state his position on the attacks saying “we expect President John Dramani Mahama to come out to condemn this unlawful act of violence by the Police against the demonstrators.”

He said ever since the incident occurred they have been working “to see that the injured received medical care and those arrested received legal support.”

Meanwhile, the 2016 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo has asked President Mahama to probe into the matter.

“I believe in the President of the Republic is in duty to establish a commission of enquiry to go into events of yesterday to see how come the Police behaved the way that they did,” Nana Addo said.
