"NPP’s presentation was a mere rhetoric" – Koku Anyidoho

The NPP insisted that the electoral register is bloated and there was the need for a new one ahead of the 2016 general elections.

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has described as a ‘mere rhetoric’ a presentation by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  at the public forum on the voters register.

The Electoral Commission on Thursday organised a stakeholders debate on the need or otherwise for a new voter register. The NPP insisted that the electoral register is bloated and there was the need for a new one ahead of the 2016 general elections.

But Koku Anyidoho speaking on Kasapa FM’s Anopa Kasapa said the NPP represented by its former National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, failed to present solid evidence to back their claims.

“Talk is cheap but facts are sacred. Peter Mac Manu failed to deliver. His presentation lacked merit, no substance, no solid evidence. It was a mere rhetoric. They couldn’t provide any evidence to back their claims of the Togolese voters register. That of the Burkina Faso and La Cote d’Ivoire’s registers was not backed by any evidence. So, the NPP was terribly embarrassed,” he stated.

The NDC has said it does not subscribe to any suggestions that the current voters register should be replaced. The party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at the stakeholders’ forum, said the appropriate thing to be done should be an audit of the register.
