Help me fix the energy crisis – Prez Mahama

The power crisis that has engulfed the country has worsened as parts of the country experience erratic blackouts.

The current power crisis facing the country can be resolved with the help of all Ghanaians, President John Dramani Mahama has said.

The president while speaking at the 20th Ghana Journalist Awards held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Saturday noted that the power sector is still his number one agenda.

But president Mahama who was the guest of honour at the ceremony which was under the theme, remarked that he cannot solve the crisis alone.

“Tonight's theme provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the challenges of the power crisis… We can fix the energy challenges with the support of all Ghanaians and become an energy hub. It is possible to have quick fixes, but what we need is a permanent fix” he said.

“If power supply could be very easily be procured off the shelves, I would have fixed this challenge long time ago… Ghana’s power crisis is as a result of multifaceted issues – climate change, downtime, reliability of fuel supply such as gas from pipeline and inefficiency from some of our utility companies," the president added.

Mr. Mahama stating that the country’s main source of power, going forward, will be the thermal power plant generated from the private sector investment urged the media to help educate the public on how to conserve electricity.

He appreciated the citizenry for, "bearing with the situation and also having a sense of humour in times like this," adding, "Power shortage has not been a very comfortable situation for our people.”
