Five out of the ten polytechnics across the country have qualified to be elevated to a technical university status .

This is in line with the NDC's manifesto. This was revealed by President Mahama in his presentation to render account to the nation.

“The committee working on it has done all its work for that conversion to take place” The president said.

Some educationists have cast doubt on this move saying it is likely to fail if it does not come with the needed funds to see the conversion through.

The latest to add his voice is celebrated heart surgeon Dr. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng. He argued that without manpower and infrastructure support the move is likely to fail.

President Mahama said 65 million cedis have been invested already in the technical and vocational sector.

The President however is optimistic about his step. He is hopeful that the remaining five will qualify for a technical university status in due time
