Serena Williams struggled to take in the achievement of winning a second 'Serena Slam' after beating Garbine Muguruza to claim a sixth Wimbledon title.

The legendary American triumphed 6-4 6-4 on another glorious day in south-west London to take her astonishing tally of grand slam titles to 21.

Williams did a joyful jig on Centre Court after scooping a fourth slam in a row, 12 years after she achieved the feat for the first time.

Spaniard Muguruza gave a good account of herself in her first grand-slam final, but was unable to repeat her defeat of the world number one in the French Open last year.

Williams will head into the US Open, which starts next month, knowing a victory will ensure she seals a first calendar Grand Slam and the 33-year-old expressed her delight after claiming yet another title.

She told the BBC: "It feels so good. Garbine played so well. I didn't even know it was over because she was fighting so hard at the end."

Turning to Muguruza on court, Williams added: "You will be holding this trophy very soon. I am so happy it was such a great match. I can't believe I am standing here with another 'Serena Slam'. It is so cool.

"It has been a pleasure and an honour to give so many years in this wonderful place. There was definitely pressure towards the end.

"Garbine started playing really well and I just had to think to stay out there and work really hard. I am having so much fun out on the court. Every day is a pleasure to play and win Wimbledon."
