10 tips for driving safely in the rain

Driving in heavy rain and flooding can be hazardous. As the rainy season begins, here are some useful hints and tips to help you prepare for wet weather:

1.  Remember to replace old or brittle wipers. Replace them after every 6 months

2.  Slow down! It takes longer to stop or adjust in wet weather.

3.  Stay toward the middle lanes -water tends to pool in the outside lanes.

4.  Maintain proper following distance. Stop tailgating.

5.  Drive in the tracks of a car ahead of you.

6.  Don't follow large trucks or buses too closely. If you must overtake, do so quickly and safely.

7.  Be more alert when driving in wet or slippery conditions.

8.  Watch out for brake lights in front of you.

9.  In very serious conditions, look for a good place and park.
