Domestic airlines in Ghana on Friday resumed Accra-Kumasi flights after days of cancellation due to the harsh harmattan weather.

Corporate Communications Manager at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Mr Eric Mireku Amaning, has attributed this to improvement in visibility in Kumasi.

Speaking to Daily Graphic, Mr Eric Mireku Amaning, said “The Meteorological Agency could give clearance for the operation of airlines, but the decision to fly or not is subject to the standards of the airlines.”
In Accra, Africa World, one of the domestic airlines, have successfully resumed flights from Accra to Kumasi.

However, flights from Accra to Tamale were yet to begin because the weather conditions in the northern regional capital have not improved.
Mr. Amaning further refuted claims that the GCAA had issued directives restricting flights until December 15, 2015.
Domestic airlines suspended flights last week due to poor visibility arising out of the hazy harmattan.
Aviation officials had indicated that visibility had reduced from between 3,000 and 4,000 metres to 400 and 800 metres.
The development led to tens of stranded passengers being forced to travel by road, leaving the Accra –Kumasi highway packed with so many vehicles.
