The Tetteh Quashie footbridge will be open to the public by the end of August 2015.

This was disclosed by the director of department for urban road Alhaji Abass Aworlu on Citi Fm.

"The bridge is substantially completed, what is outstanding is the paving work and greenery at footings of the bridge. By the grace of God we should open the bridge before the end of August."

The Tetteh Quashie footbridge is part of four footbridges government is funding with a seven million euro loan from the Austrian government.

Two will be on the Accra-Kaneshie-Mallam road and the fourth on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology junction, popularly called Tech Junction.

The foot bridges are to ensure pedestrian safety on the highways.

Alhaji Abass also said solar systems have been installed to ensure uninterrupted supply of power to the traffic lights on the George Walker Bush Highway.

He said this is an interim measure to aid pedestrians while, the Ghana Highway Authority works on constructing additional footbridges on the highway which has claimed so many lives.
